Custom Chalk Lettering and Illustration by Amy Bonner
How did You start lettering?
My mom is a prolific calligrapher and I grew up watching her work with markers, pointed pen, nibs, brushes, you name it. She wasn't just a calligrapher, but also a graphic designer (before computers), seamstress, artist, illustrator, paint restoration expert, and so much more. A few years ago I was looking for a second job and I put in an application at the friendliest place on earth, Trader Joe's. I loved working on their Fearless Flier boards and POS signs. It was an amazing learning experience. I am expanding my business and looking for new clients and projects all of the time. If you know someone who you think might be interested please recommend my services.
Wait, so you're a designer too?
Right after I graduated from RIT in 2004 with a BFA in Illustration, I started working as a graphic designer. I learned so much in my first few years working in the field about printing, marketing, and grid method. I worked in Rochester, NY as well as Philadelphia, PA before returning to graduate school in 2009. I love designing logos, posters, brochures, tee shirt graphics, and more. I am available for hire as a designer or consultant on a design project. I am an avid problem solver and would love to help you share your business with your clients in a new and creative way!
Is this your full time gig?
I went to grad school and received an MST in Art Education. I currently work as an art educator in the Rochester area. I love teaching and learning alongside my students. As an art educator it's important for me to also be a practicing artist which is why I love lettering so much. I will be the Director for the Center of Entrepreneurship at my school next year too so running my own business helps me to share my growing knowledge with my students as well.
